Kinnaur Kailash
Kinnaur Kailash is considered one of the most sacred peaks in Hinduism and Buddhism. The mountain is home to a 79-foot natural rock formation resembling a Shivling, which changes colour throughout the day — from golden at dawn to silver at noon and dark at dusk. The parikrama (circumambulation) of the peak is one of the most challenging and spiritually rewarding journeys in the Himalayas.
Myths & Legends
Legend holds that the Pandavas of the Mahabharata passed through Kinnaur Kailash on their final journey to heaven (Swargarohini). The natural Shivling is believed to be self-manifested (Swayambhu) and is considered one of the most powerful Shiva shrines in the world. Local Kinnauri legend says that the mountain glows with divine light on Shivratri night.
